Chapter 6 Meditation – Dissonance the Epic Journey

Begin by finding a comfortable position. Let your body be supported by the chair, the floor, or the earth beneath you. Allow your shoulders to soften. Let your jaw unclench, rest your hands where they fall naturally.

Close your eyes, or lower your gaze. Take a slow breath in through the nose, and exhale through the mouth.

Again, inhale, steady and full.

Exhale, releasing what you don’t need to hold.

Let your breath settle into a lazy rhythm.

Now, imagine a single musical tone.

Pure.

Clean.

Stable.

This note represents the calm center within you.

In music, dissonance occurs when notes clash. When tension is created between tones they do not easily resolve.

Dissonance can feel uncomfortable.

Unsettling.

Demanding attention.

And yet without dissonance, music lacks depth. Without tension there is no journey.

In life, trauma creates a similar effect. Emotional dissonance arises when experiences pull us away from our sense of safety or meaning.

A memory may contradict what you want to feel now. A belief formed in pain may challenge what you know to be true today.

Notice if any emotional tension is present in your body. There is no need to name it. Simply acknowledge it.

Breathe gently into that space.

Just as in music, dissonance is not the enemy. It is information. It signals a moment of intensity, a turning point in the composition.

Trauma does not mean your life is broken. It means the music has moved into a complex passage.

Stay with the breath.

You are safe in this moment.

Life and music both require dissonance to become compelling, meaningful, and beautiful.

It is the tension that gives rise to courage. The strain that reveals resilience. The unresolved chord that invites transformation.

But even in the most dramatic composition, dissonance is never meant to last forever.

It seeks balance.

It longs for resolution.

Bring awareness now to your heart space.

Place a hand there if it feels comforting.

Imagine the heart as a tuning instrument capable of listening, adjusting, and aligning.

As you inhale, imagine the heart softening. As you exhale, imagine emotional tension loosening its grip.

Now reflect gently on balance.

In music, too much dissonance becomes noise. In life, constant inner conflict exhausts the spirit.

This is where self-awareness becomes essential.

Notice your thoughts without engaging in them. Notice emotional reactions without feeding them.

You do not need to instigate conflict within yourself or others to feel alive or powerful.

Peace is not passive.

It is intentional.

Cognitive dissonance arises when beliefs pull against one another.

When the mind argues with the heart.

Breathe into clarity.

Ask yourself silently:

What do I truly believe about my worth?

What do I believe is possible for me?

Let the answers come softly without force.

Now affirm, quietly or silently:

I choose beliefs that support my well-being. I release inner opposition. I allow my thoughts, emotions, and heart to align.

Feel the steadiness of that choice.

Hold an unwavering belief in your ability to manifest the reality you prefer.

Not through strain.

But through coherence.

When hearts and emotions align with intention, the dissonance begins to resolve.

Like a chord finding its home.

Imagine now the music of your life shifting. The tension is still present, but it is purposeful. Moving somewhere meaningful.

You trust the process.

You trust yourself as the composer.

Breathe deeply into this sense of trust.

As this meditation comes to a close remember:

Dissonance creates the epic journey, but balance creates the beauty.

You are allowed to choose harmony.

You are allowed to resolve what no longer serves you.

Take 1 deep slow breath in and a long gentle exhale.

When you are ready, open your eyes, and return to your life with awareness, alignment, and confidence in the music you are creating.
